SLAPSHOT REPORT improves upon the traditional method of
ranking teams exclusively by points earned.
Hockey Analyst evaluates teams using Performance Components:
- Success Ratio (SR) calculates points earned as a percent of
points available to be earned for games played to date.
Teams with a season SR above 54% usually make playoffs.
- Goals For / Goals Against / Per Game calculates cumulative
average winning or losing margin for games played to date.
Historically, teams with a season negative GF/GA/PG will not
make the playoffs.
- Opponents Cumulative Average Success Ratio (OCASR)
calculates team schedule difficulty for games played to date.
Performance Components cited above are entered into a proprietary formula that calculates overall team strength and assigns a numeric value to
rank each team within its Conference. Performance Components and Calculated Rankings within Divisions and Conferences are displayed in two
spreadsheets which provide a comprehensive view of each team's strengths, weaknesses and accomplishments, compared to all other teams.

$ following one team's name means it is favored to win that game.
$ after both teams' names denotes even odds (such games are
not used in calculating oddsmakers winning percentage).

Oddsmakers favor the home team to win over 70% of games.
Historical research indicates home teams win a slight majority
NOTE: Your Hockey Analyst and oddsmakers frequently select
different teams as the likely winner of each game.
Hockey Analyst Picks
All Games: The number in parenthesis after a team name is your Hockey
Analyst's calculated rank for that team in its' Conference. The team with
the lower number is ranked higher than the opponent and most often is
the pick to win that game.
In some instances a team with a higher number (poorer record) may be
deemed more likely to win, often due to home ice advantage. In such
cases the predicted winner's name will be followed by an asterisk *.
Inter-Conference Games: To reflect the difference in Conference
strengths, a team with a higher number (poorer record) in a stronger
Conference may be deemed more likely to win vs a team with a lower
number (better performance) in a weaker Conference. In such cases
the predicted winner's name will be followed by an asterisk *.
The "Division Rank" spreadsheet lists teams in order of Success Ratio. It shows the "Variance from Average" for "Goals For" and "Goals Against".
Black numbers denote better than league average performance; red numbers denote poorer than league average performance. The degree of
variance facilitates evaluation of each team's offensive and defensive record to date and provides the foundation for comments in "Analyst Alley".
The "Conference Rank" spreadsheet lists teams according to your Hockey Analyst's overall ranking that combines all three Performance Criteria.
